About | Grace Elizabeth Sowers Montgomery, 92, of Zanesville, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at her home away from home, SharonBrooke Assisted Living in Newark, Ohio, where she was lovingly cared for by her granddaughter, Amy Twyman, and the SharonBrooke staff. Grace was born in Zanesville on July 22, 1921 to the late William and Mary Trickett Bell. She lived and worked in the Zanesville area all her life including many years as a telephone operator at Ohio Bell. Grace was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Grace never knew a stranger and was always talkative and friendly whether she knew you a long or short period of time. One of Grace's passions was dancing, especially square dancing. She belonged to the Zanes and Janes Western Dance Club for many years. She also enjoyed archery and participated in competitions in her younger years, loved gardening, traveling and playing cards with family and friends. She is survived by her son, John Alan Sowers; her sister, Ruth Murphy; step-son, Mike (Valerie) Montgomery; two step-daughters, Patty (Mike) Parrish and Tami (Nate) Lyons; step grandchildren, Erin (John) Lang, Amy (Jimmy Smith) Twyman, Joshua (Sara) Twyman, Jacob (Jackie) Twyman, Rob (Maria) Montgomery, Chad (Krysta) Montgomery and Gabi Lyons and Jake Lyons; 24 step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Sowers, her second husband, Loren Montgomery; a daughter, Terri Lynn Sowers; a brother, Kenneth Bell; and a sister, Freda Parsons. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. |
