About Harold Robert “Bob” Winters, 89 of Zanesville passed away on Wednesday July 29, 2015.
He was born in Zanesville on November 12, 1925 to the late Harold V. and Edna Walsh Winters
Graduated from Lash High School 1943
Member of Immanuel United Church of Christ of Zanesville, A Mould maker by Trade at Zanesville Mould Company and retired in 1988. He served on the executive board of the American Flint Glass Workers.
Founded Early Times Custom Car Club and was an avid pottery collector.
During World War II he enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 3, 1943 where he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant as a nose gunner on a B24 Liberator. He was a member of the 531st Bomb Squadron, 380th Bomb Group, Fifth Air Force. He received an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with five Battle Participation Stars (Air Offensive Japan, China, Bismarck Archipelago, Northern Solomons, & Southern Philippines) Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal. He also earned two Presidential Unit Citations. As a member of the 380th Bomb Group, he also had the unique honor of being able to wear the bomber wing insignia of the Royal Australian Air Force.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Moeller Winters, his brother, Donald E. Winters, and his good friend Mose Mesre. Surviving are his daughters Sharon (Don) Mullinnex and Shelley (Carl) Fuller and his son Stephen Winters, all of Zanesville. His four grandchildren, Trent (Jacqueline) Jay of Wisconsin, Tyrone (Elaine) Jay of Tennessee, Jessica (Chris) Martin of Westerville, Ohio, and Matthew Fuller of Minnesota. Six great grandchildren Justin Jay, Cory Jay, Calvin Jay, Megan Jay, Connor Martin and Owen Martin. Also, cousin Edward (Pat) Walsh of Gaysport.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Church of Zanesville, 105 South Seventh Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or Genesis Healthcare Foundation 2951 Maple Avenue Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8pm on Friday July 31, 2015 and one hour prior to services at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday in The Snouffer Chapel with Pastor Mitch Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors by George Selsam VFW Post 1058.
