| About | Henry F. Abele, 87 of Zanesville, died 2:08 AM, Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living in Zanesville. He was born Saturday, July 19, 1930, in Zanesville, the son of Edward S. Abele and Margaret (McCaddon) Abele. Henry was a graduate of Lash High School and enrolled in the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Following graduation from the Naval Academy, Henry enjoyed a successful career as a pilot and flight instructor in the United States Navy, retiring at the rank of Lt. Commander. Prior to his retirement, Henry received his Master’s Degree in Business and became a Certified Public Account. Following his navel career he was an Associate Professor with The Ohio State University. Henry was a historian, a collector of many books and historical readings, and an avid reader. Henry is survived by his wife: Joyce Hessler; two daughters: Lori (William) Custer of Granville and Kristin (Jim Sugar) Abele of Johnstown; two grandchildren: Andrew Custer & Marissa Sugar; his step-children: William (Shirley) Miller of Long Island, NY, Shirley Joy Baransi of Columbus and Mary G. Miller of Columbus and cousin Richard (Mona Jean) Abele of Marietta, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by one brother: Andre Nicholas Abele and one step-daughter: Susan Miller. Friends may call Monday, December 4, 2017, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the Hillis Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, December 4, 2017, at the funeral home with Fr. Martin J. Ralko officiating. Henry will be laid to rest in Mount Olive Cemetery with the United States Navy, VFW Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29 conducting full military honors. |
