About | Henry M. Blandy, 88, passed away Friday, June 23, 2000, in Eugene, Oregon. He was the son of Benjamin C. Blandy and Mary Elizabeth (Molly) Myers Blandy. He was born in Zanesville and was a graduate of Lash High School and member of St. James Episcopal Church, where he was a member of the choir for 22 years before leaving Zanesville. After graduation, he worked for the J.C. Penney Co. for 42 years without missing a day. He held many positions with the company before leaving Zanesville in 1948 to help open the new downtown Penney store in Cincinnati. From there he went to Xenia and Columbus. He was active in the Toastmasters Club in Zanesville and the Sertoma Club in Xenia. While in Columbus, he was on the management team that opened the new Penney store in Westland Mall. He retired from the Penney Store at Town and Country in 1976. After one year of retirement, he was hired by BancOhio, which later became National City Bank. He worked there for 16 years in the auditing department at the Operations Center. He won many honors while there and even took part in a TV commercial. He retired in 1994 at age 82. He and his family had been residents of Gahanna, Ohio for 44 years. He moved to Eugene, Oregon in February of 1999 and has been a resident of the Farmington Nursing Home. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Lula E. Johnston Blandy, sons Douglas E. (Linda) Blandy of Eugene, Oregon; William C. Blandy of Washington, D.C. and Jay M. Blandy of Moscow, Russia. Grandchildren, Brendan B. and Lydia E. Blandy of Eugene, Oregon. Graveside services will take place at 2 pm Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer Association of Columbus. |
