About ZANESVILLE: Jack Wilford Towning, 80, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at his home in Zanesville, Ohio.

He was born on November 25, 1932 in Cannelville, Ohio a son of the late John and Della Mae Towning . He graduated from Lash High School in 1951. Jack retired from a 22 year military career in the United States Air Force. While stationed at RAF Woodbridge in Yorkshire, Great Britain he met and married his wife Dora Mary (Wright) Towning. He served his country in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart on September 17, 1967 for wounds incurred in battle. After his retirement, he then pursued various business interests in the oil and gas industry and the fiber optic cable industry. He was a member of the Lafayette #79 Masonic Lodge in Zanesville, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Cambridge, Ohio. He was also a member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling to Europe.

He is survived by sons, Dr. Larry Dean (wife Catherine) Towning, Danny Joseph Towning, and James Mark Towning; six grandchildren, Sarah Mally Towning, Dustin Jacob Towning, Christian Norman Towning, Jessica Marie Ovitt, Dr. Dena Erin Towning, and Dr. Claire Elizabeth Towning; three great grandchildren, Benjamin Louis Towning, Austin Jacob Towning, and Anthony Weldon Ovitt III; brother-in-law, Dwight Minner; and special friend and companion, Bernice Sigrist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Mary Towning; sisters, Colleen and Janice. Brother Larry Leonard Towning.

Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon on Sat. December 22, 2012 with services to follow at 12:00 Noon at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 5765 Gladstone Drive, White Cottage. Dr. Brian Law officiating.
