About | James L. "Jim" West, 90 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully at 12:33 PM, Friday, March 18, 2016 at Genesis Hospital. He was born Monday, September 7, 1925 in Zanesville, the son of Louis O. West and Alice C. (Hempfling) West and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Jim served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, during WWII. He served in the 279th Engineer Combat Battalion in the Rhineland & Central Europe. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars. He was proud of his country and proud of his service to his nation. Jim was the owner and operator of James L. West Company, Roofing & Sheet Metal for over 30 years. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 1058 and oversaw the VFW Firing Squad for over 30 years. Jim was also a member of the American Legion Post 29. Jim is survived by four daughters: Nancy E. (Kenneth) Argo of Zanesville; Kathleen Rose (Al) Campbell of Pickerington; Julie Marie Swingle of Nashport; and Rita Diane (Eric) Davis of Morristown, TN.; three sons: James L. (Marcia) West of Columbus; Mark A. (Tara) West of Zanesville and Joseph Michael (Elma) West of Morristown, TN; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and the mother of his children: Arieta L. West of Zanesville In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his 2nd wife: Martha (Barnes) West; two sons: Daniel K. West and infant Louis O. West and one sister: Janice (Don) Pringle. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at The Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville and one hour prior to services on Wednesday from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM. Funeral Services to Celebrate Jim's Life will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Funeral Home with Fr. Martin J. Ralko officiating. Burial will take place 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 24, 2016 in Mt. Olive Cemetery with VFW Post 1058 and the United States Army conducting full military honors. |
