About James Melvin "Jim" Everett, 81, of Zanesville, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was born on September 19, 1928 in Zanesville, he was the son of the late Hal Everett and Vera (Allred) Everett of Zanesville. He attended Lash High School and graduated from Ohio University. Mr. Everett was an auctioneer in the area for many years and was an owner and manager of the Zanesville Community Sales Barn. He was also a well-known cattleman, specializing in the Angus breed, and owned and operated Jim Everett Trailer Sales. He auctioneered for many years for the 4-H Junior Fair sales for Muskingum and surrounding counties, and enjoyed playing polo alongside his father and sons, on the Harbor Hills Polo Team as well as several teams in Ohio. Jim and his father played on the unbeaten Akron team that won the Penn-Ohio League championship of 1944.

In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Jane (Windisch) Everett, whom he married on February 16, 1950; children, Troy (Sheila) Everett of Frazeysburg, Molly (David) Allen of Zanesville, Amy (Tim) Kennedy of Nashport, Hal (Karen) Everett of Columbus, Jenny (Andrew) Schultz of Atlanta, Abby (Wayne) Tignor of Hopewell, and Megan (Stellan) Skarsgard of Stockholm, Sweden; grandchildren, Terry and Danny Everett, Wendy (Chase) Ringhiser, Aimee Fuller, Cara (Jason) McMannis, Tess and Emma Kennedy, Emily and Brian Everett, Ben, Liddy, and Zach Schultz, Joel and Brad Tignor, and Ossian Skarsgard; great-grandchildren, Elliott, Draven, Phillip, J.C., Joseph, and Baylie; sister, Jane (Tom) Campbell of Evans, Georgia; niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Burial will be in Williams Cemetery.
