About | James “Jim” R. Shawger, 66 of Nashport, passed away 3:01 PM, Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Genesis Hospital. He was born Saturday, March 31, 1956, in Zanesville, the son of Dick Shawger and June (Collopy) Shawger. He was married to love of this life for over 45 years, Marge (Durant) Shawger who survives. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Jim was a meat cutter with Gibson Packing, Zane Foodtown and retired from Westside Market. He was renowned for his famous sausage sandwiches. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 505, and was an avid sports fan. He loved the Cleveland Indians and was a big defender of the Cleveland Browns, no matter what their season brought. Jim loved bowling, golf, cards and just spending time with all his friends and neighbors. He was very active in all his children’s sports activities and could tell you all the details of each game. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with them, his siblings, their families and his friends. He especially enjoyed being with his father-in-law and caring for him in his later years. Everyone who knew Jim loved him, he never met a stranger. Jim is survived by one daughter, Mindy (Mark) Blankenbecker; two sons, Scott Shawger and Brad (Bethany) Shawger; four grandchildren, Marleigh & Maddie Short and Jimi & Connor Coveney; seven siblings, Jeff (Diana) Shawger, Susan Baltzer, Nancy Arnold, John (Bonnie) Shawger, Mike (Kelly) Shawger, Tom (Tara) Shawger and Molly (Bob) Haslam; four brothers-in-law, Mike (Vanessa) Durant, Mark (Ivy) Soter, Matt (Jenny) Durant and Martin Durant; three very special friends, Phil, Rhonda and Cheryl; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his step-father, Jim Fountain; his father & mother-in-law, Herb & Betty Durant; one sister-in-law; Kathy Shawger; one brother-in-law, Jim Arnold, one nephew, Aaron Baltzer and one niece Langdon Thomas Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. Following visitation a there will be a time of personal reflection for family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 East Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Martin J. Ralko as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. |
