About BIRMINGHAM, AL: Jean Ann Rutledge Palmieri, 85 of Birmingham, AL, formerly of California and Ohio, died peacefully on January 30, 2013 in St. Vincent's Hospital West in Birmingham, AL.

Born July 21, 1927 in Zanesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clinton Eugene Rutledge and Hazel Opal Rutledge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ciro James "Jack" Palmieri; her sister, Frances Cora Holler; and three brothers, Myron Lawyer Rutledge, Ralph Waldo Rutledge, and Donald Eugene Rutledge.

Jean is survived by her two sons, Lance Ciro Palmieri and Scott James Palmieri; a brother, Robert Paul Rutledge of Seattle, WA; a beautiful granddaughter, Isabella Francesca Palmieri of Birmingham, AL; a loving niece, Rebecca Holler Barkley and Family, and nephew, Michael Eugene Holler and Family, and many other adoring nieces and nephews.

Jean began her journey through life in Zanesville, Ohio. She graduated from Lash High School in 1945. She moved to California with her Mom in 1956. After moving to California she worked for Bookkeepers Business Service in Pomona, Ca until 1961. Jean met her husband, Jack in 1960 and they were married on December 16, 1961. Upon marrying Jack she became his partner, not only in life but in a dry cleaning business; Palmieri Cleaners in Sherman Oaks, Ca, that she later ran following his death until the late 80's. At the age of 72 Jean moved to Ontario, Ca, where she lived with her sister-in-law, Carrie Rutledge and much fun was had. During that time Jean worked for Intuit Payroll Services, in San Bernardino, Ca until the age of 80.

On December 6 of both 1962 and 1966. She gave birth to her two sons Lance and Scott. In 1974, she lost Jack to a battle with cancer. Over the next 35 years she raised her two sons and touched the lives of the many who met her. To some she was known as Jean, but to most she Mom or Aunt Jean. In 2004 Jean became a Grandmother and in 2007 moved to Birmingham, Al to be with her sons and granddaughter.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Stephen Beck, St. Vincent's Hospital West and all of the wonderful nurses for their loving care of Mom. A special thank you to the staff of the Fourth floor Oncology Department, being so incredible in every aspect of what they do. We would also like to thank The Cathedral Church of the Advent, The Rev. Canon Craig Smalley and the many Lay Chaplains that came to support and pray with us through the difficult time.

Services will be held at grave side on June 1, 2013 11:00 am, at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, CA, 6300 Forest Lawn Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90068.
