| About | It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Lanard Burke, 68, of McDonough, Georgia. He passed away on March 29, 2023, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Jeff was born on October 30, 1954, to Daniel and Alberta Burke in Zanesville. After graduating from Zanesville High School in 1972, he went on to study at Bowling Green State University and eventually transferred to The Ohio State University. After graduating from OSU with a degree in Industrial Architecture, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served as a pilot for six years. In 1977, Jeff married Sharon Moorehead in their hometown of Zanesville. Jeff and Sharon went on to have three daughters, Shannon (Burke) Battle, Allison Burke and Ashley Burke. After an honorable discharge from the Marine Corp, Jeff received a graduate degree from Boston University and had a successful career in executive sales management for several decades. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to community service. Whether it was making care packages, meals for the homeless, assisting with Thanksgiving food drives or volunteering with hospice, he never missed an opportunity to give back to his community or those in need. In the last few years, Jeff retired from executive sales management and became a real estate broker. He especially loved helping and educating first time home buyers through the home ownership process. He enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and traveling with his wife. Jeff was predeceased by his parents Daniel Burke and Alberta (Green) Burke. He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Moorehead) Burke; daughters, Shannon (Cedric) Battle, Allison Burke, and Ashley Burke; grandchildren, Jordan, Sam and Bria Battle; brothers and sisters, Timmy (Emma) Burke, Kenny (Carla) Burke, Sharon Johnson, Dana (Cynthia) Burke, Kevin (Tina) Burke, Betsy (Mike) Carlisle and Claudia Burke; mother-in-law Carol Moses; sisters-in-law, Diana (Okey) Martin and Gayla Ware; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Jeff was a life-long member of Union Baptist Church, 56 Eight Street, Zanesville. He was baptized there in 1965, married there in 1977, and services will be held there on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at noon with visitation from 10:00 AM till time of service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military honors. |
