About John Clifford 'Cliff' Smock, 79

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -John Clifford "Cliff" Smock, 79, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Joan; and children, Greg (Cathy) Smock, Melanie (Jeff) Barrick and Ladyne (Brian) Frazee; his grandchildren, Sarah, Meagan, Ryan Bradley and Taylor will cherish the memories they each have of their granddad.

Cliff is also survived by his brother, Wayne Smock; and brother-in-law, Don Crumbaker. He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephew; and his two wonderful caregivers, Mel and Bing.

Cliff spent most of his life in the Zanesville area and retired as plant manager from Ohio Ferro Alloy Corp. after 35 years of service. He and Joan spent 12 years in Cleveland and then moved south to Huntsville, Ala. He loved the sunshine and took every opportunity to take a dip in the pool. Cliff's workbench was renamed "Tinker Town" because he enjoyed crafting wooden treasures for his family. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind and loving man with a quiet, gentle spirit. Like the 1949 Lash High School quote, "A true gentleman whom we shall not soon forget."
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Leonard Smock; brother, William Smock; sister, Rosalie Kappes Haehnlen; and grandson, Logan Wells.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Family Care, 3304 Westmill Drive, Huntsville, AL 35805 or Alzheimer's Association, 117A Longwood Drive, Huntsville, AL 35801.

Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Inc., Huntsville, Ala., is handling arrangements.
