About John F. "Jack" Fenton, 68, of Zanesville, died Friday evening, April 14, 2006, at Willow Haven Care Center.

Jack was born August 4, 1937, in Zanesville, the son of the late John H. and Pauline Litzinger Fenton. He was a member of the first class to graduate from Zanesville High School on Blue Avenue, the class of 1955, which was also State Basketball Champions. On August 4, 1958, he started his 46 years of sevice to the people of Zanesville when he joined the Zanesville City Fire Department. He served as a firefighter, assistant chief, director of public safety and was elected for three terms as mayor by the citizens of Zanesville. He was also co-owner of Champion Insulators Inc. for 26 years.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Y-City Investment Club, Zanesville Country Club, Board of Zanesville Art Center, Genesis Advisory Board, past president of Goodwill Industries Board, Pierce Street Community Center Board for 25 years and Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce.

Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years, Maryanna Clapper Fenton; a daughter, Jane Anne and Jon Trent of Algonquin, Ill; sons Stephen and Mary Fenton of Zanesville, and Michal and Karen Fenton of South Windsor, CT; six grandchildren, John A. and Lisa Trent, Ashley L. Trent, S. Christopher Fenton, Amy M. Fenton, Olivia M. Fenton and Andrew M. Fenton; a sister, Wanda F. Welker of Zanesville; a brother William L. Fenton of Solon; and six niedces.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two sisters, Joyce E. Prono and Shirley A. Niederlander.

Burial willl be in Memorial Park.
