About | Joseph A. Gormley, 75, of Chandlersville, died peacefully on June 1, 2016. Judge Gormley was born in Zanesville, Ohio on July 7, 1940 to the late Joseph and Mildred Gormley. He was a 1958 graduate of Zanesville High School, graduated from Ohio State University in 1962 and earned his Juris Doctorate there in 1965. In August 1963, Joe married Susan Cameron, with whom he enjoyed fifty-three years of lively and loving partnership. Judge Gormley was an assistant prosecuting attorney in Muskingum County from 1965 to 1975 and had a private law practice from 1975 to 1991, specializing in oil and gas law and estate work. He was elected as the Probate/Juvenile Judge in Muskingum County in 1991 and served until he retired in 2014. In addition to being a judge and an attorney, Gormley was active in Republican politics and had a small cattle farm and oil and gas production. He was a Member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and Muskingum County Bar Association. He is survived by his wife and children; Jane (Mark) Burwell, Joseph A. (Christi) Gormley III, and Sarah Gormley; grandchildren Holly Quinn and Joseph "Joey" A. Gormley IV and step-grandchildren Jade and Jared Burwell; and Sister Jean Pierce of Zanesville. He was preceded in death by siblings Tom, Mary Mildred and Judy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The National Kidney Foundation |
