About | Joseph “Joey” Justin Swope, 38, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at his home. Joey was born December 7, 1981 to Diana G. (Gates) Giroux and the late John Alan Swope. In addition to his father, Joey is also preceded in death by his beloved son, Lamont J. Swope; grandparents, John and Sandra Gates, Guy Swope, and Sarha Spiker; and an uncle, Kenneth Taylor. Joey leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved children, Zoe, Noah and Braxton Swope; his mother, Diana D. Giroux; brother, John Adam (Crystal) Swope; aunts and uncles, Rickey L. (Diana) Gates, Rebecca L. (Keith) Gates, and Margret (Ron) Smith; nieces and nephews, Briana, Boston, Brandon and Blake Swope; several cousins; and a host of other family members and many, many special friends. Joey was a gifted athlete, specifically an amazing football player. During his football career as a Zanesville Blue Devil, he wore #19. Joey also enjoyed other sports, such as basketball, golf and boxing. On whatever Joey was eating, you would likely find ketchup- which he enjoyed on everything. When he wanted a treat, you could find Joey with whatever sour candy he could get his hands on. Joey was a wonderful father who loved his children unconditionally. He was the type of man, that if he said he would do something, he did it. While Joey may have looked big, mean and tough, he was a very soft-hearted man. Joey was loved by so many and he will be dearly missed. Per the family’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. |
