| About | Judith (Ansel) Thomas, age 73, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Kingston of Ashland. Born on June 25, 1937 in Zanesville, OH, the daughter of the late E.J. and Mary (Blosser) Ansel. A well-known area pianist, she was a Capital University graduate. She earned a Master of Music degree with a focus on piano performance at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, as a student of Cecile Genhart. Mrs. Thomas taught piano at Ashland College; gave private piano and voice lessons; performed duo piano with her husband Joseph at Ashland University; also accompanied many other musicians throughout her life. Member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and a lay reader and choir member for over 35 years, and active in Ashland Musical Club since 1966. In 1961, Judith married Dr. Joseph E. Thomas III, who she met at Eastman School of Music. He preceded her in death in 1991. Survivors include three sons, Jason Thomas of Mansfield, OH, Michael Thomas of Asheville, NC, Dr. Jeffrey (and Maria) Thomas of Kahului, HI; and granddaughter, Elizabeth.
