About | L. Evelyn Richardson, 93, of Zanesville, died 3:00 AM Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital following a brief illness. Evelyn was born Monday, August 27, 1917 in the Historic Putnam District of Zanesville, the daughter of William Price Pumphrey and LaVerna (Carr) Pumphrey. She was a graduate of Lash High School and married the late Howard R. Richardson on February 8, 1937. She was employed by The Moorehead Company, owned By Tom V. Moorehead, former Mayor of Zanesville and Ohio State Senator for over 40 years where she served as office manager and insurance agent. Evelyn was a charter member of National Secretaries Association, now known as International Association of Administrative Personnel, which was organized locally in 1947. She was organizer and charter president of the Insurance Women of Zanesville, serving as Regional Director of Region 10, encompassing clubs in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Michigan from 1952-1953. Evelyn was a very active member of Pilot Club of Zanesville, Inc. beginning her membership in 1948 and retaining it until her death. She held the office of President of the Pilot Club of Zanesville four times. She was a member of the Friends of The Library, Business and Professional Women of Zanesville, Blue Triangle and Good Samaritan Charity Circle. After her retirement, she volunteered in the office of The Muskingum Valley Chapter of The American Red Cross, the Muskingum County Welcome Center and Good Samaritan Hospital Gift Shop. Evelyn enjoyed traveling and attending Pilot meetings and conventions with all her Pilot friends. She was an avid reader and true letter writer who commanded the English language and was a great Cincinnati Reds Fan. Evelyn is survived by one niece: Rita McGlade of Westerville; one nephew: Alva (Marlene) Richardson of Zanesville; many great nephews and great nieces and several great great nieces and great great nephews and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband: Howard R. Richardson, who died July 25, 1967; two nieces: Laura Jean Rinehart and Donna Sprankle; one nephew: Ray Richardson and many lifelong friends. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park. |
