About Logan Bowman, 83, of Zanesville, died on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 1:28 a.m. at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital following a short illness surrounded by loving family members.

He was born June 9, 1927 in Zanesville. He was the son of the late Logan E. Bowman and Aley Susan (Lumbatis) Bowman. He married Norma Jean Davis in March 1953 and was a member of South Zanesville Methodist Church where he taught the High School Sunday School Class for several years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Logan graduated from Lash High School in 1945 and joined the US Navy, serving as 2nd Class Petty Officer until 1947. After leaving the Navy, he attended Ohio University for one year. He was Office Manager at the YMCA for two years and later was Head Bookkeeper for Citizens National Bank. He then attended Professional Barber College and joined his father at Bowman's Barber Shop. He was Zanesville Bowling Association Secretary for 15 years, a basketball official for many years, played baseball on local teams and coached Little League and Babe Ruth teams.

In 1974, he became Manager at Green Valley Golf Course, earned his Professional Golf Certification and was the Pro at Green Valley until 1988. He then became the Pro at Jaycee Golf Course until 2001. He was no stranger to this course as he had joined the Zanesville Jaycee Organization in 1949 and was chairman of the back nine building project in 1958. He was a member of the Golf Course Board for 15 years and was Treasurer of it for three years. The Jaycees awarded him a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Community Service in June 2005 at their annual 9-9-9 Tournament. His best score at Green Valley was 53, and at Jaycees a 65. He was inducted into the Zanesville District Golf Association Hall of Fame in 2000, and had been previously inducted into the Zanesville Bowling Assn. Hall of Fame. He was proud of his 10 holes-in-one at various courses. He was a member of American Legion, VFW, Charity Newsees & the ZDGA.

He is survived by his wife, Norma of 57 years; sons, Michael (Janice) Bowman and Mitchell (Cindy) Bowman; daughter, Robin (Jack) Creeks; grandchildren, Missy (Ben) Talbot, Vanessa (Eric) Wright, Brent (Angela) Bowman, Natalie Creeks, Megan Bowman, Jessica Creeks, Kyle Bowman; great-grandchildren, Jaret & Jacelyn Talbot, and Gavin & Alana Wright; brother-in-law, David (Carla) Davis; sister-in-law, Vicki Davis; and nephew, Chad Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters-in-law, Linda Bugglin, Diana Davis and Patty Best; and brother-in-law, Jack Best.

Burial will be at Zanesville Memorial Park.
