EUGENE, OR: Lula Elyn (Lou) Blandy, age 99, passed away on August 9 in Eugene, OR. She was born March 20, 1917 in Zanesville, OH and the daughter of Waldo E. and Hazel L. (Gallogly) Johnston. Lou was a graduate of Lash High School and also attended Meredith Business College in Zanesville. She was a former member of the Brighton Presbyterian Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of that city. After graduation from Meredith Business College in Zanesville, she was the credit manager at Montgomery Ward in Zanesville followed by fielding customer service complaints at Sears Roebuck in Columbus. During the Korean War, Lou was a security officer in civilian payroll at Wright Patterson Airforce Base in Dayton, Ohio. In Ohio, Lou participated in numerous community service organizations including Beta Sigma Phi, La Sertoma Club, and Child's Conservation League. Above all she valued her family and many friends in Ohio and Oregon.Besides her parents and brother, William E. Johnston of Zanesville, she was preceded in death by her husband Henry M. Blandy in June, 2000.She is survived by her sons, Douglas E. Blandy (Linda), William C. Blandy, Washington, DC, and Jay M. Blandy, Istanbul; grandson Brendan Blandy, Oakland and granddaughter Lydia (Peter) Kurtz, Charlotte. She is also survived by nephews Steven and Joseph Johnston and niece Anita Zeihen. |
