Graduation Year Class of 1970
Date of Birth Jan 02, 1952
Date of Passing Dec 18, 2023
About It is with great sadness that we share that Marian Patricia Baker Bessy, known as Mimi to those close to her, passed away on December 18, 2023, surrounded by family, after an extended illness. She was born in Zanesville, OH, on January 2, 1952, to Frederick and Mary Patricia (French) Baker, both now deceased. She graduated from Zanesville High School and received a BA from Kent State University. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Charlotte, NC., where she met her husband, Ranjit Singh Bessy, and he survives.
She and Ranjit were married at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Zanesville in December 1977. Mimi had a long career providing social services to developmentally disabled adults. She loved creating art in various media and led art workshops. She and Ranjit greatly enjoyed their home on a lake in Charlotte, but also made frequent trips to their property at Myrtle Beach, SC. They were gracious hosts to foreign college students in their home for many years and loved them like family. Mimi's furry friends, kitties Lee and Eli, also brought her immense joy.
In addition to her husband, Ranjit, Mimi is survived by a large family, including five brothers, Daniel (Kathryn) Baker, Frederick Baker, Douglas Baker, David (Jamie) Baker, and James (Robin) Baker, and three sisters, Dorothea (Mark) French, Candia (Harry) Laughlin, and Martha Baker, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friend Izabela Szymanska among many other friends.
Mimi was a sweet and giving person, always, and very devoted to her family and people with special needs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Jason's Getaway for families with disabled persons Donate now. Jason's Getaway.
To honor Marian's wishes, a green burial service will be held graveside at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 22, 2023 at Kings Mountain Preserve - Blacksburg, SC.
