About | Marjorie R. Holzschuher Sellers, 95, of Zanesville, passed peacefully in her sleep at 1:54 AM, Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at The Helen Purcell Home. She was born June 2, 1917 in Zanesville, the daughter of William Grover Holzschuher and Fausta Faye Ray. She married Rolland W. Sellers on April 20, 1945 and was a member of Central Presbyterian Church. Marjorie began dancing at the age of 7 and studied under Georgia McClure McLoughlin until the age of 16, at which time she began her 79 year career of dance instruction. In 1933, she began the Marjorie Holzschuher Dance Studio following the untimely death of her dance teacher, Ms. McClure McLoughlin. Marjorie enjoyed studying dance each summer in New York City and had the opportunity to study under Ned Wayburn, Director of The Ziegfeld Follies. The Marjorie Holzschuher Dance Studio has continually operated and is celebrating the studio's 79th anniversary. The location of the studio has remained on 7th Street in Downtown Zanesville, from 1935 till 1972 at 39 South Seventh Street and from 1972 till present at 51 South Seventh Street. Marjorie, although retired, has retained a strong presence at the Holzschuher Dance Arts Center and Marjorie & Butch's School of Dance. Marjorie was a life member of C.N.A.D.M. (Chicago National Association of Dance Masters), Dance Masters of America, receiving her 50 Year Pin in 1998 and Dance Educators of America. She was also a member of Zanesville Soroptimist Club and was the recipient of the Genesis Women of Achievement Award, the Mary Vashti Funk Award and the 1998 Dance Member of The Year Award from Dance Masters of America. Marjorie's active dance career allowed her to dance in her last recital in May 2012 with her longtime friend, business associate and caregiver, Butch Theisen. Marjorie is survived by her friend, Butch Theisen of Zanesville; one niece and nephew: Greg & Jean Little and Al & Suzan Zakany both of Zanesville and a host of former students, alumni and colleagues. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park. |
