About | CLAREMORE, OK.: Matt Richard Davis was born September 10, 1957, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Richard DeWitt and Barbara (Lehman) Davis. He died Thursday, May 19, 2016, in Claremore, Oklahoma, at the age of 58 years. Matt was reared at the family home at Willow Lake. He graduated in the Zanesville High School Class of 1976. He much enjoyed trail riding and off road motorcycle racing. His great love was camping and fishing the Georgian Bay of Canada with his brothers and father. He was a natural mechanic and builder. He won the local soap box derby with a car that he constructed and represented Zanesville in the Akron national race. Following high school graduation he worked briefly with Gene Hubbard as an auto mechanic. He then completed his education attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where he received his airframe and power plant ratings. Matt then entered the United States Navy. He served aboard the CV-60, the carrier Saratoga where he became a crew chief for an F-1A squadron. Following his honorable discharge from the naval service he spent most of his working life in aircraft maintenance for American Airlines. He enjoyed a wide variety of pastimes including fishing, pheasant and quail hunting and raising his own Bob White quail. He also enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes and was in the process of building a full size airplane. He recently became interested in beekeeping and was a member of the Northeastern Oklahoma Beekeepers Association. He yearly spent some summer time at the Zanesville Club, a fishing camp on Beaverstone Bay Ontario. Loving family members include: His wife; Linda, of the home in Claremore whom he married 3-21-92, Son; Austin Davis, of Summerville, South Carolina and two daughters; Lindsay Davis, of Zanesville, Ohio and Sarah Newell, of Ladson, South Carolina Two grandsons; Aidan and Jack French Davis, Linda and Matt's adopted son. Brothers; Dr. Dean Davis and wife Corrina, of Zanesville, Ohio and William Davis; Parents, Barbara and Dr. Richard Davis of Zanesville, Ohio Matt's memorial service was held 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Leonard Pirtle officiating.. Arrangements and services for Oklahoma were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. In lieu of flowers, cards, or donations, visit your local beverage store and drink a toast to Matt davis who enjoyed life to the fullest and was loved by many.
