Melanie J. Mitchell, 53, of Zanesville, welcomed the hand of Jesus as she went from labor to rest at 12:02 p.m. Sun. November 2, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Melanie was born on January 11, 1961 in Zanesville. She was educated in the Zanesville public schools, graduating in 1979 from Zanesville High School. She graduated from Carousel Beauty College in 1981. During her time in Lawton, Oklahoma she attended and graduated from the Great Plains Technical School of Phlebotomy in 1991. She was a STNA at Adams Lane Care Center and Cedar Hill Nursing Home until sickness prevented her from working. She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. She is survived by her parents: Sam W. and Juanita (Corbett) Mitchell; two sons: Weslee Alexander and Richard Alexander; one daughter, Channing (Ryan) Sims; Her grandchildren who were the light of her life: Iyaunna Alexander of Georgia, Jada Alexander of Zanesville, Caden Alexander of Lancaster, Cassius and Xavier Sims, and Sahara Sims of Zanesville; the father of her children, Richard Alexander; three brothers: Sam (Betty) Mitchell, Jr. of Zanesville, Michael (Carole) Mitchell of Waterford, Michigan, and Mark Mitchell of Zanesville; one sister, Deborah (Thomas) Woodall of Zanesville; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and very good friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Robin Mitchell, Sr. and Johnny Mitchell; two sisters: Rebeccah Wyatt and Penelope Moore. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014. Rev. Clifton Kilpatrick officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. |
