About Michael Steven Girton, 59, a native of Zanesville, went to be with his Heavenly Father 27 August, 2011, at Mercy Fairfield Hospital, Cincinnati, after a long illness.

Born 24 June, 1952, the son of the late Elmer Newton Girton and the late Mary Kathryn (Brooker) Girton.

He married Kathryn Ruth Whitacre 1 June, 1974 in Columbus, Ohio. He was a loving brother, husband, father, and foster-dad. He was an accomplished carpenter who loved woodworking.

He was raised in North Terrace Church of Christ, Zanesville. He graduated from ZHS/MCJVS in 1972, and from Kentucky Christian University (KCU), Grayson, KY in 1976. He completed his Master's Degree in Ministry at KCU in 1988. He devoted his life to serving his Lord in a number of capacities. His most recent ministry, with his wife, was as a missionary to the Dominican Republic and St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (Field Director, West Indies Christian Mission). His other service included: Executive Director, Open Door Christian Ministries (for at-risk teens) in Indiana; Director, Youth Rehab Center in St. Croix; He and his wife planted a number of churches and trained national pastors in the Dominican Republic as well as serving churches in Ohio. He also served the community of Zanesville as an E.M.T. in 1979-80.

Michael is survived by his wife, Kathryn; two sons, Jeffrey (Angela-fiancé), Brian, and a daughter, Amy (Sokol) Girton-Gorenca, all of Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Malinda (Dennis) McWilliams of Zanesville, a brother, Mark (Jane) Girton of Reynoldsburg; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
