About | Mildred Edith Kessler, 94 of Nashport, was taken by the hand of the Lord to be with her family in heaven and to join her husband Carl on Sept. 22, 2012. Mildred affectingly known as "Grandma K." to all her family, was born, September 14, 1918, the youngest child of the late Frank Henry and Edith Caroline Heinrich Beckert. She was a 1937 graduate of Zanesville High School and worked 10 years at Woolworth 5 & 10 on Main Street. While working she enjoyed roller skating and on weekends skated in rinks all over the Midwest, winning many ballroom dancing contests. Mildred is a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ where she taught Kindergarten Sunday School for many years, and a member of Richvale Grange for 65 years, where she has been secretary for 49 years. She received the Ohio State Granger of the year for 2009 and was the first cook at the Friendly Hills Grange Camp when formed in 1979. She is a member of the Muskingum County Genealogy Society, Muskingum 485 Eastern Star, Past 4-H leader, worked the election polls for over 40 years, and for many years had a stand at the Farmers market selling homemade items and cookies, especially Springerles, and participated in many Christmas bazaars in the area. During WW II, the minister of her Church, Rev. Braun, became a chaplain of a unit in Germany, and wrote and asked the young ladies of the Church to write to some of the soldiers. Mildred's letter ended up with Carl Alois Kessler of Lachen, Switzerland. They wrote all during the war so Carl came to Zanesville to meet her on October 12th; and were married on October 21, 1945 in the family home. Mildred is survived by her daughter Trudi Edith (Paul) Joseph of Zanesville, Grandchildren, Carl Frederick Tipton & Shanna Likens of Zanesville, Paul Andrew Tipton & Minnie Smith of Roseville, Kim Vickers & J.D. Kelley of Frazeysburg, Kari James (Darcie) Kessler of Dresden, Greg & Peg Joseph of Nashport, and Yvette & Mark Cade of Alliance, Lori (John) Wolford of Frazeysburg, Georgeanne (Nathaniel) McColley of Coshocton, Theresa Dibari of Dresden. Great Grandchildren, Andrew & Timberly Tipton, Tiffany Amber Tipton, Ryan A. Vickers, Jessica Lynn (Jonathan) Clapper, Damien R. Vickers, Kari E. Kessler, Cheyenne Rose Kessler, Anthony & Ashley Joseph and Drew & Brittany Joseph, Jared Kelly, Casie Prince and Morgan Prince. Great Great Grandchildren, Landon, Logan, Andrew Jr., Averii, Kannen and Amara. Several sisters-in-laws in Switzerland and many nieces and nephews around the World. Mildred was so happy to know that Averii will carry on the family middle name Edith for another generation. She is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Carl whom passed away Jan. 4, 1982, son Kari Henry Kessler who passed April 28, 2011, Great granddaughter Katie Tipton, Brother, Francis Beckert and sisters, Anna Zumbro Henne and Mary Elizabeth Holzschuher. Mildred will be laid to rest next to her husband, Carl in Muskingum Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Gorsuch Road. |
