Graduation Year Class of 1955
Date of Passing Dec 29, 2010
About Nancy Helen (Carter) Gildersleeve, 73, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, in Frederick, due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Nancy was born June 26, 1937, in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Helen and George Carter. She graduated from Zanesville High School with her beloved class of 1955.

After graduating from Kent State University, she moved to California, where she taught deaf and hard-of-hearing children for more than 30 years in Los Angeles Unified School District. She raised her two children, Megan and Jeff, in South Pasadena, Calif. She was an active volunteer in the PTA, Girl Scouts and a variety of youth sports programs.

In 2004, Nancy moved to Frederick with her daughter and grandson to be close to her son and his family. She enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren, traveling, playing bridge with her friends and volunteering for Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her daughter, Megan Shallanberger; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Elizabeth Gildersleeve; her four grandchildren, Bowen, Matthew, Ashley and Ryan; her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Frank Stetson; her honorary sister, Norma Jean; and her extended family and friends whom she loved deeply.
