Graduation Year Class of 1965
Date of Birth Jan 10, 1947
Date of Passing Dec 08, 2025
About Paul (Jeff) Jeffrey Mobus, 78, passed away on December 8, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was born on January 10, 1947, in Silver Springs, Maryland, to Paul Franklin Mobus and Edna Earle Murray Mobus. Paul lived a life filled with exploration, service, and a deep appreciation for how things work.

Paul graduated in 1965 from Zanesville High School, in Zanesville, Ohio, where the family had moved from Cumberland, Maryland, when Paul was in grade school. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1969 and completing ROTC training, Paul joined the U.S. Army and served as a radio engineer at Fort Bragg in NC. He volunteered for Ranger School, including survival training in the swamp.

Following his honorable service, Paul transitioned into a successful career as an Electrical Engineer. He worked for Westinghouse, ABB, Elster Electric, and retired as a Senior Engineer from Honeywell. In each role, he was admired for his knowledge and problem-solving skills. Paul became an expert in the design, testing and manufacture of electrical meters.

Paul’s passions extended well beyond the workplace. He was active in Raleigh Ski and Outing Club (RSOC) and Carolina Canoe Club (CCC). He found joy in both whitewater and flatwater paddling. As a licensed pilot, he enjoyed flying with J&S Flying Club. His enthusiasm for communication technology led him to the Raleigh Amateur Radio Society (RARS), where he helped coordinate emergency services. He also volunteered for and supported the Umstead Coalition for over 2 decades. A family connection led to a lifelong passion for all things railroad.

He is survived by his brother Lynn Mobus of Duncan Falls, Ohio, his sister Anne MacLean of Zanesville, Ohio, niece Laura MacLean of Pataskala, Ohio, and nephews Jonathan (Hailey) Emerick of Duncan Falls, OH, and Jeremy Emerick of Zanesville, OH, as well as cousins Kenneth (Lu Anne) Gerard, Daniel (Heather) Gerard, and Eric Gerard. He was preceded in death by his father Paul Franklin Mobus and Mother Edna Earle Murray Mobus.

A visitation service will be held at Brown Wynne funeral home, 1505 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh on Saturday January 3rd, from 1 p.m. through 3 p.m.
