About A funeral service celebrating the life of Pearl E. Deeds, age 96, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Charlsie Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Pataskala Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.

Mrs. Deeds passed away Friday, April 24, 2014 at Sharonbrooke. She was born March 26, 1919 in Zanesville to the late Andrew and Ethel (Church) Bennett.

Pearl was a graduate of Zanesville High School, a 1940 graduate of Bethesda School of Nursing and attended Meredith Business College. She served in the Army Nurse Corp during WWII, serving in Australia, New Guinea at Ora Bay Hospital and later in Manilla. She was discharged with the rank of Captain and worked for Dr. Phillips in Zanesville after the war. Pearl was a member of Hanover Presbyterian Church, Hanover Grange and Farm Bureau Council. Pearl retired as the Nursing Supervisor for the Licking County Health Department.

She is survived by two children, Judy Tuttle of Hanover and Alan (Jan) Deeds of Newark; five grandchildren, Holly (Dan) Martin, Erika (Scott) McMaster, Lora Deeds, Emily (Chris) Colyer and Anna Deeds; four great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Luellen Deeds; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, D. Wayne Deeds whom she married in 1948 and passed away in 1993; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Deborah Deeds; two sisters, Marjorie Bennett and Edna George; and a brother, Virgil Bennett.
