About | MENTOR: Deacon Raymond C. Beebe, 83, of Mentor, passed away September 17, 2011 at Salida Woods Assisted Living. Born November 2, 1927, in Zanesville, Ohio, Mr. Beebe had lived in Mentor since 1965. He joined the Navy in the spring of 1945, his senior year. After serving for four years aboard the aircraft carriers USS Rendova and USS Badoeng Strait, Mr. Beebe attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He called 1953 his banner year, because that year he graduated from college, was hired at the Lubrizol Corporation, and married his wife, Marjorie Emmert. Mr. Beebe worked as a chemist in the Pilot Plant lab at Lubrizol World Headquarters in Wickliffe, Ohio, from 1953 until his retirement in 1990. In 1980 Mr. Beebe was ordained as a permanent deacon in the Catholic Church; his deacon class was only the second class to be ordained in the Cleveland Diocese. He served as a deacon at St. Mary Church in Mentor and at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Willowick, giving homilies at Mass, baptizing infants, and serving in many church ministries. Two of his greatest joys in life were spending time with family, especially his two granddaughters, and watching Cleveland Indians games. Mr. Beebe was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Wilma (Hunter) Beebe; his wife, Marjorie (Emmert) Beebe; and his brothers, Tom and Don. He is survived by his four children, Sister Ellen Beebe, SND, Andrew Beebe, Christopher (Diana) Beebe, Elise (John) Smith; two granddaughters, Amanda and Shelby Smith; and one stepbrother, Wilfred Watts. Interment will take place at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Twp. |
