About Robert A. Straker, 83, of Zanesville, Passed away Monday, October 2, 2006, at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House, after a long illness.

Bob was born February, 13, 1923, in Lima, the son of the late B. Robert and Marguerite B. Ackert Straker. He was a Zanesville area resident since 1925, a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Zanesville Country Club, Commerative Air Force and was a pilot for 60 years. At the time of his death he was the owner of OSAGE Investments, LLC and Trustee of Airport Commission in Zanesville. Bob was former president of Buckeye Supply Co., former partner in family owned businesses which included, Buckeye Supply, Oxford Oil Co. and Allied Machine Works, former president of Ohio Simmental Association, former director of Mutual Federal Savings and Park National Bank, former owner of Citizens Bank in El Dorado, Kansas and Kansas City, MO, and former board member of Good Samaritan Hospital. Bob enjoyed flying, trapshooting, hunting and fishing.

Bob was pilot and co-pilot of the Sentimental Journey, a restored B-17G World War II Flying Fortress, for 21 years. He was recently honored by the Commerative Air Force Flight Crew with a fly-by while a patient at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Jean F. Schulze, whom he married February 27, 1944; grandchildren, Gwendolyn Kane of Minneapolis, MN and Dana (Carrie) Kane of Grayslake, IL; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Trevor Kane; brothers J. W. (Mary Helen) Straker, Richard (June) Straker and Charles (Sue) Straker of Zanesvile; a sister, Mary Lou Taylor of Zanesville; a sister-in -law, Carol (David) Hallet of Weems, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Ann (Becky) Kane, who died December 31, 1994.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
