About Robert L. Popp, 84, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009. He was born March 9, 1924 to George and Ida (Williams) Popp in Zanesville.

He was president of his Zanesville High School class of 1942 and a graduate of the Ohio State University. Mr. Popp served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a pilot achieving the rank of Major. He was a member of all Masonic Lodges and was active in Blue Devil's football and basketball. Mr. Popp directed the Zanesville Chamber of Commerce for five years during which time it became active again. He served as president of the Zanesville Civil Service Commission for over 5 years. He was also a member of the V.F.W., Genesis Assoc. Board and the Zanesville Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Jayne Popp; and four step-children, Kimberly J., Charles, Kerry and Randy Noble.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Popp and Dr. Clarence Popp.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rambo Memorial Health Center and the Zanesville High School Quarterback Club, c/o John Ormond.

Honoring his wishes his remains will be donated to the Ohio State University. Memorial services will be at a later date and are incomplete at this time.
