About | Ruthe Friesinger LaPlante, 51, of 1414 Greenwood Ave., Zanesville City School teacher and active in civic organizations, died at 1:20 am Tuesday, July 9, 1974 in her home. She had been in failing health since November. A Zanesville resident most of her life, Mrs. LaPlante taught for 15 years in the Zanesville City School system with 10 of those years at Roosevelt Junior High School. Prior to teaching positions here she taught in McConnelsville Elementary School and Calabasas Schools in Calabasas, Arizona. Mrs. LaPlante was a Muskingum College graduate with a degree in languages and during WW II worked as a translator analyist in the Office of Strategic Services in Washington, D.C. She held a commendation from OSS Director General William Donovan for dedicated services. A member of Faith United Methodist Church, Mrs. LaPlante was active in church work most of her life and held various offices in the Women's Missionary Society in the Former Evangelical United Brethren Church. She served in local , district and conference levels, Mrs. LaPlante was a select member of the Ad-Hoc Committee of the United Methodist Church of the West Ohio Conference which was established to organize the United Methodist Women. Elected to the office of secretary of Christian Social Involvement, she currently served in that capacity. A member of the Junior Bethesda League, she also was a member of Authors Club, American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and Y-City CCL. Mrs. LaPlante was a past president of the YWCA and past neightborhood committee chairman of the United Fund. She was born October 25, 1922, in Johnstown, PA, a daughter of Herman C. and Ruth Strovik Friesinger of 1417 Wheeling Avenue. Surviving in addition to her parents, are her husband, Walter E. LaPlante; two sons Michael F., a graduate student at the University of Chicago and Peter E., of the home.; two sisters, Mrs J. William (Henrietta) Hurst of 1391 Wheeling Avenue and Mrs. Wilbur C. (June) Mock of 4400 West Pike; and one brother, Dr. G. C. Friensinger II of Vanderbilt University at Nashville, Tennessee. Burial will be in Memorial Park. |
