About Zanesville - Samuel "Sam" E. Russell, 70 of Zanesville, died at 5:10 PM, Sunday, January 31, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Saturday, July 29, 1950, in Zanesville, the son of Herman Russell and Vivian (Booth) Russell. He married Anita (Koons) Russell on Saturday, August 31, 1991.

Sam served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was a Drag Line Operator with Olen Corporation for over 25 years and with Brookes Brothers for the past 5 years. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Hands of Faith Church.

Sam loved the Lord and doing His work; he loved going on mission trips to the Caribbean and South America. Sam was a hard worker and family man who cared deeply for his family. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He loved to travel and was a former Master Mason.

Sam is survived by his wife of the home: Anita Russell; four children: Angela (Michael) Sherry, Annette (Patrick Flickinger) Russell, Troy (Jamie) Gussler and Candice (Jason) Jarvis; eight grandchildren: Brandi & Cody Sherry, Zakerie Combs & Chad Combs, Haiden Gussler, Bailey, Alexandra and Jaxon Jarvis; one great grandchild: Lincoln Sode; two brothers: Bob (Linda) Russell and John (Micki) Russell and many nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 4, 2021, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. Due to current health conditions face masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Funeral Services will be held 12 noon, Friday, February 5, 2021, at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Michael Bullock officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 AM till time of service. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery where the United States Marine Corp, VFW Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29 will conduct full military honors.
