| About | Stephen Thorne Thompson, of Fort Wayne, Ind., died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at his home. He was born May 30, 1952, in Columbus, to Shirlee Thome Thompson and the John R. Thompson. Steve graduated from Zanesville High School in 1970 and then earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from Ohio University. Steve was a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church, where he was as a former trustee and usher. He was facility engineer for American Electric Power and was involved with Junior Achievement, volunteered as a tutor and was a member of YMCA. Steve was a natural athlete and played football and golf for ZHS. He excelled at squash and racquetball, loved his motorcycle and won third place in Ontario Province Canada for the size and weight of his Muskie catch that year. Steve was extremely computer savvy and had his Ham radio license. He built his lovely home in Fort Wayne and helped his neighbors and friends with those skills. Steve is survived by his wife, Sharon Schneider Thompson; children, Matthew, Michael, Amanda and Michelle of Fort Wayne; his mother, Shirlee of Zanesville; brother, Jeffiey Baird Thompson of Zanesville; sister, Jana Thompson Fisher of Annapolis, Md.; a special aunt and uncle, Jim and Sue Thorne of Zanesville; very loving nieces and nephews; and many, many friends along with Kay Johnson Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Zanesville. He was preceded in death by his father, John R. "Dick," who passed away in 2007; and sister, Victoria Thompson Baker, who passed away in 2003. Funeral services were held Jan. 12, 2009, at St. Michael Lutheran Church with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran High School, Emmanuel-St. Michael Lutheran School or the YMCA of Fort Wayne, Ind. Shirlee and family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Bryan Place, 49 N. Sixth St., Zanesville. Arrangements were handled by the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home. |
