About | Susan Kirby Harpell, of Phippsburg, Maine, who grew up in Zanesville, Ohio, and is a daughter of Barbara Welker and Robert Kirby of Zanesville, passed away April 27, 2018 after a long and difficult struggle with overwhelming health issues. She was married to Mark Harpell for 34 wonderful years. She met Mark in Maine where they made their life together. Susan joined the Air Force after graduation from Zanesville High School and worked in special services. After her time in the service, she obtained her degree in Speech Pathology. She worked as a speech pathologist in Maine until her retirement. Susan had a love for animals, especially her dogs and always had one by her side. She loved each of her dogs and they were devoted to her. She will be missed by all of her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her twin daughters, Dana and Sara, who died before birth and her brother Robert Chris Kirby. She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Harpell of Phippsburg, Maine and a cherished daughter, Erika Harpell, of Brawley, California, her mother Barbara Welker and father Robert Kirby, both of Zanesville, Ohio; a sister, Cathy (Scott) McKinley of Alexandria, Virginia and step-brothers, Steve (Judi) Welker and Douglas Welker of Zanesville.
