About Thomas Edward Spencer, 70, of Nashport, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born May 10, 1940, in Zanesville, a son of the late Howard E. and Virginia Phillips Spencer. He worked for 24 years as a Flightline Scheduler/Production Controller for the Civil Service for the United States Air Force and retired after 12 years of service as a furnace worker for Ohio Ferro Alloys. He was a member of the Rolling Plains United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW where he was a member of the firing squad, DAV, Amity Lodge #5 F&AM, Amrou Grotto where he was a member of the clown unit, American Legion, Eagles and the 32 Degree Valley of Cambridge. He served during the Vietnam era in the United States Navy and later became a Flotilla Commanding Officer for the United States Coast Guard. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed golf and loved to attend spring training with the Cleveland Indians. His greatest joy in life was his daughters and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Sherry M. Carr Spencer, whom he married June 23, 1971, of the home; three daughters, Carole (Brad) Gecowets of Newport Beach, CA., Jennifer (Greg) Hartman of Ontario, OH. and Holly (Mike) Schwamel of Medina, OH.; six grandchildren, Allison, Max, Lauren, Mason, Madelyn and Riley; a brother, Jody (Kim) Spencer of Zanesville; and four sisters, Donna (Keith) Kreager of Austin, TX., Sue (John) Maziar and Pam Cooper, both of Zanesville and Deborah Hardwick of Houston, TX.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and John Spencer.

Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park.
