About | William G. Barry, 73, of 803 St. Louis Avenue, president of Bloomer Candy Company, died at 7:15 pm Monday, October 5, 1976 in Good Samaritan Medical Center. He had been in ill health the past year and hospitalized three weeks. His father, S. W. Barry, was one of the founders of Bloomer-Bell Candy Company in 1879. In the 1890's the name was changed to Bloomer Candy Company, a name synonymous with well-known Star Chocolates. Barry became associated with the company in 1920. A life resident of Zanesville, he was born October 15, 1902. Mr. Barry was a memeber of St. Thomas Catholic Church, it's Holy Name and Purgatorial societies, a 50 year member of United Commercial Travelers, a member of National Candy Wholesalers Association, the Four Score Plus Ten Club and was well known as a pioneer in the candy packaging industry. Surviving are his widow, the former Mildred Stokley, whom he married October 4, 1926; three daughters, Mrs. Frederick W. (Elsie Ann) Berkshire of Marion, Sr. Augusta O.P. of Steubenville Central Catholic School and Mrs. Lawrence Mirgon of Columbus; a son, William S. Barry of 2503 Dresden Road; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. George Smith of 824 St. Louis Avenue and Mrs. Frances Betz of Newark; a brother, Joseph E. Barry of Alexandria, VA. Burial will be in Mt. Calvery Cemetery. |
