About HILLIARD: William J. Marshall, M.D., age 77, of Hilliard, OH, formerly of Kettering, OH, was welcomed Home on June 9, joining many loved ones.

Bill was born in Akron, OH to the late Cora and William J. Marshall, Sr., and grew up in Zanesville, OH.

Bill graduated from Musk- ingum College and the University of Maryland School of Medicine where he graduated magna cum laude. Following an internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and residency and cardiology fellowship at Cincinnati General Hospital, he began his medical practice in Dayton. He practiced with Dayton Internal Medicine for many years.

Bill was the founding Director of the Coronary Intensive Care Unit at Kettering Medical Center and the Director of both the Non-Invasive Cardiac Laboratory and the Cardiac Rehabilitation In-Patient Laboratory. He served as president of the Montgomery County Medical Society, the Ohio Society of Internal Medicine, the Ohio State Medical Association, and the Combined Health District, Montgomery County. Bill was also a Professor of Medicine at the Wright State University School of Medicine.

After he retired from practice, he acted as Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at the Wright State University School of Medicine. Bill was instrumental in developing many innovative programs to benefit and improve health care, including a mini-internship program to educate public officials and policy makers about medicine, Project MEND in the 1980s to provide free health care to those who lost their health benefits when they lost their jobs and Project OPEN to aid the elderly poor. He cared deeply for his patients, who adored him in return, and embraced and thoroughly enjoyed the practice of medicine. He delighted in working with medical students and writing articles and was an inspiration to so many people.

Bill was an avid fisherman and looked forward to annual Canadian fishing trips with the Fur, Fin, and Feather Club. Bill was an incredibly generous man, with his family and friends, as well as strangers. Above all, Bill loved and adored his family and was a devoted husband, father and Pop-Pop.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara; his daughters, Elizabeth Troxell (Richard), Hilliard, OH, Catherine (Arthur Hughes) Athens, OH, and Ann (David Gremmels), Minneapolis, MN; and his eight beautiful grandchildren, Marshall, Grayson and Gretchen Troxell, Kodjo and Papa Fritz Hughes, and Lily, Sydney, and Will Gremmels.

A memorial service and celebration of Bill's life will be held Monday, June 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton, OH. Dr. George H. "Sandy" McConnel officiating. The family will receive friends at Westminster following the service. Private entombment David's Cemetery Mausoleum, Kettering, Ohio.
