About | Beloved father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend, William “Bill” James Madigan, 92 years young, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023 in Land ‘o Lakes, Florida following a sudden illness. A graduate of Lash High School, Bill served in the Army with the Big Red One and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning to Zanesville, Bill managed Kresges and K-Marts for nearly 50 years. He loved woodworking and created and installed kitchen cabinets throughout Zanesville. He was a lifelong member of Coburn United Methodist Church, and was a founding member of the local Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a Mason for over 65 years and a member of Amrou Grotto, and Scottish Rite. Bill loved planes and loved to travel. During his retirement, which was “the best job he ever had,” he travelled yearly as a snowbird to the Traveler’s Rest in Florida, bringing the warm weather with him when he returned in the spring. Bill volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, golfed, rode his bike, worked in a snack shop, and kept himself busy. His children were amazed by his unending energy. He also spent his retirement years “solving the world’s problems” in casual conversation. Bill never stopped engaging with the world around him and made friends wherever he went. He always had plans for things to do and people to see and we are deeply saddened that we won’t see another 92 years of adventures with Bill. His humor and good sense will be missed. He loved his family and was proud of them. He is survived by sons, Scott (Ginger) Madigan, and Jay (Brandi) Madigan, and daughter, Holley (Chas Rich) Madigan, as well as grandchildren, Brendan Madigan, Shea Madigan, Angela Rich, Ethan Madigan, and Kian Rich. He is preceded in death by parents, James and Lottie Madigan, sister, Donna Madigan, brother, Robert L. Madigan, and grandson, Lucas S. Madigan. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Cronk officiating. Burial with Military Honors will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. |
