| About | 1967 Spouse Patty Proctor Downing Dates Born 9/3/1949 Died 3/26/1998 Obit Funeral services for Tom Harrison Downing, 48, were at 2pm, Saturday, March 28,1998, at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. James Hewett, Dr. Wade Pascal, and Rev. Dan Patman officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Tom was born Sept. 3,1949, at Pryor, Okla. He died March 26, 1998, in Ardmore. He married the former Patty Proctor on March 27, 1982, in Ardmore. He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1967. Tom had been a football coach for 23 years, 10 of those at Ardmore High School, where he was the head football coach for 7 yrs. He also taught and coached football at Duncan High School, and Lone Grove High School. At the time of his death he was a teacher, head football coach, head boys track coach, and athletic director at Wynnewood High School. In 1982 and in 1992 his football teams won the State Championships. In 1995 his track team won the State Championship in Wynnewood. Tom served in the Navy and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wynnewood. He is survived by his wife, Patty, and daughter Becky, of the home; his parents, Bob and Janice Downing of Ardmore; brothers and their wives, Robert and Penny Downing, Tulsa; Ron and Addie Downing , Ardmore; brothers-in-law and their wives, Bill and Lois Proctor, Ardmore; and Steve and Suzanne Proctor, Ponca City; a sister-in-law, Barbara Proctor, Muskogee; several nieces and nephews. Pall bearers were Drew Young, Roger Byrd, Jason Melot, Patrick McKay, J.J.Smith, Jim Holloway, David Sparks, and Charles Lynch. Honorary bearers will be former and present Wynnewood Savages. Memorials were made to the Wynnewood Athletic Department. 702 E. Robert S. Kerr, Wynnewood, Okla. Services were directed by Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home.
