About | Eddie was born August 31, 1934 in Cushng to Dick and Marie [Walter] Fisher. He graduated in 1952 from Cushng High School, where he was active in FFA. He received the State and American Farmers Degrees and was awarded the Governor's Award for his accomplishments in agriculture. In 1956, Eddie recdeived a bachelor's of sciencedegree in animal science from Oklahoma A&M. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and the Oklahoma A&M livestock judging team. He married Dorothy Ruppelius in 1959; they lived in Stillwater while he attended school. He received hs doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1963 from Oklahoma State University. While in school, he served as president of the Junior AVMA. He started his veterinary medicine career in Claremore and Tulsa. In 1965, he moved to Winfield, Kansas, where he spent 43 years practicing veterinary medicine at Winfield Veterinary Hospital. He loved treating animals and developing relationships with their owners. He served 20 years on the board of directors for the Winfield Chamber of Commerce and served as the group's president in 1975. He was a member of Rotary Service Club and twice served as its president. He served on the Winfield City Commission and, in 1979, as mayor of Winfield. He was a membger of the board of directors for the H. L. Snyder Research Foundation and served as chairman of its research committee. He was an active member of the First United MethodistChurch and served on numerous committees during his life-long membership. He received the Cowley County Firend of 4-H Award and helped organize the Cowley County Classic Steer and Heifer Show. He was a member of the OSU Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association and served as its first president. In 2006, Eddie was named the OSU Veterinary Medical Distinguished Alumnus. He was involved in farming and ranching his entire life and had a passi8on for land conservation. He enjoyed attending livestock shows, OSU sporting events and his grandchildren's activities. He also enjoyed hunting and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Marie Fisher. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughter Jennifer Legako, her husband Mike and their children, Megan and Lindsey of Winfield, Kansas; his daughter Kari Galliart, her husband Mark and their children, Clayton and Emily of Stillwater, Oklahoma; his sister, Bonnie Muegge and her husband Don of Lamont, Oklahoma, and her children and grandchildren. Funeral services under the direction of Swisher-Taylor Funeral Home were in the First Methodist Chuirch of Winfield, October 31, 2008.
