David Alec Alexander (Dave/Dad/Pops) passed away at the age of 71 on the night of Thursday, March 30, 2023. He passed as he wished, in his home near his family. David was born on November 28, 1951 in San Diego, California. He was raised and spent much of his life in Midwest City, OK. He began working at a young age at Safeway grocery store, and then spent some time in Vietnam working as a contractor. David went to work for the US Postal Service at age 30, where he had a 30+ year career, most of which was on Route Number 7. He took great pride in walking that route, regardless of rain or shine, heat or snow. David was preceded in death by his father, Eldon and his mother, Elsa. David is survived by his wife, Gaile, who he had been married to for 50 years; their son, Ryan and his wife Angie, and daughters Kaylee and Kinsie; and his daughter Shea. He is also survived by his brother, Gary and nephew, Jason. Although David’s health declined over the last few years, he will be remembered as follows: A loving son of his mother and father; A dedicated and caring brother; A dependable provider who sacrificed for his wife and children, and a fierce protector of his family; A father who provided love and support through anything his kids faced; An animal lover that loved his pets, despite a grumble when they misbehaved; A welcoming man who opened his home to all. David and Gaile fed home-cooked meals to many of their kids’ friends for lunch and dinner several times a week throughout their high school years. The dad who put up a wooden goal and played basketball with his son in the driveway, wearing combat boots because his ankles were so bad; A disciplinarian, who was known to give a swat for every article of clothing left on the floor. EVERY SOCK! A supporting father who attended every basketball game and shouted “DEFENSE” to cheer on the Bombers. The buff dad who created a home gym in the garage, and calculated how much weight he lifted in Tons! He also opened up the gym to all the kids who came over. The dad who took as many kids home after practice as would fit in an ‘85 Isuzu pick-up, all over MWC. An avid BBQer, and someone who enjoyed sharing one of his favorite things: Beer, Blues and BBQ. At every barbecue he fired up some of the best ribs you ever tasted. David and Gaile opened their home to 20+ for the annual Birthday celebration for their son, Ryan. A dependable worker and earnest saver. He started working at a young age to save up for a Volkswagen Bug.? A man of exceeding work ethic. Fighting through pain, and taking pride in walking one of the toughest mail routes through the Original Mile in MWC. A wise teacher – he taught how to lift weights, fight back (but only when necessary), and how to walk away. A man with a unique and memorable sense of utilitarian style. A historian, who loved reading about history and learning facts. A man of quiet faith. He didn’t talk much about it, but when he did, you knew where he stood – a man who is now at peace in Heaven. David was a private man and requested that there not be a funeral service. He will be cremated, and his ashes spread by his family, in the countryside. |
