Memorial services for Edward Ellis McGee Jr., age 60, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7th, 2008 at the Cookson United Methodist Church, with Reverend Marilynn Schellhamer officiating. Military honors will be rendered following the service. Those serving as honorary pallbearers for Ed include Bennett Guthrie, Jim Stark and Harley James. Services have been entrusted to the care of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Edward Ellis McGee Jr. was born on November 3, 1948, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of Edward and Jessie McGee. After graduating from Midwest City High School in 1967, Ed proudly volunteered to serve his country during the Vietnam Conflict with the Marine Corp, 3rd Recon. He received the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V. After his honorable discharge, he married his high school sweetheart, Anna Ruth Comer in 1969. He graduated from Central State University with his Bachelor of Science in Accounting. This union was blessed with a son, Michael, and a daughter, Michelle. Ed spent the next thirty years working for the United States Government as a Criminal Investigator for the IRS. He also remained active in the U.S. Army Reserve attaining the rank of Major. In December of 1995, Ed and Anna moved from Edmond to the Cookson area and have been active in the community ever since. Ed was a member of the Masons and the Oklahoma Society of CPAs. When he had free time, Ed enjoyed doing a little hunting or fishing. But he was happiest when just relaxing at home with Anna and the kids with his canine buddy Pooh perched in his lap. Ed was a devout Christian and a faithful member of the Cookson United Methodist Church. Ed will always be remembered as an honest, loyal, hardworking American. The Lord called Ed home on Tuesday, December 2, 2008. He will be greatly missed by all the family and friends who loved and knew him. Ed is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brother Bob Coons. Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of forty years, Anna of the home two loving children, Michael McGee of Tulsa, OK, and Michelle Yarbrough and her husband Brad of Tulsa, OK. He also leaves two sisters, Suzie Golden and her husband Steve of Midwest City, OK, and Jan Hill and her husband Richard of Oklahoma City, OK and one and a half adored grandchildren, Conner McGee of Tulsa, OK, and Baby Yarbrough coming in March as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
