After living 65 years of a life well celebrated Geary W. Hawkins, Sr. passed away on July 13, 2016 in Oklahoma City OK. He was born on December 21, 1950 in Altus, OK. He graduated from Midwest City High School in 1969. During his high school years he met the love of his life, Linda and they were married on June 26, 1970. Throughout his life Geary enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gaming, but most of all he was an avid OU Sooner Fan. He served his country in the US Air Force. After the Air Force he opened and operated G&L Electric and Lighting for over 20 years and then went to work for the US Postal Service as an Instructor. Geary treasured his family and his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Hurshel and Aline Johnson. Geary is survived by his wife, Linda M. Hawkins; children, Melinda Winkenwerder and husband David; Melissa Benson and husband Donnie; and Geary W. Hawkins, Jr. and wife Sonia; grandsons, Jacob Benson, and Christian Winkenwerder; sister Paula Stevens and husband Nick; two aunts; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; numerous work friends; and last but not least his best friend Ken Holland. The family would like to say a special thank you to all of the nurses and doctors who have assisted in his care during his prolonged illness. Services to celebrate Geary’s life will be held 10:00 am Monday, July 18th, at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. |
