Lonny Dean Wilson D.Ph. passed away on January 25, 2021. He was born in Midwest City, Oklahoma, on October 24, 1950, to James Samuel and Lila Wilson. Lonny graduated from Midwest City High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), earning his degree in Pharmacy in 1973. That same year, he met Ginger Graham, the love of his life and wife of nearly 50 years. Together, they raised two talented sons, Justin (of Norman) and Corey (of Colleyville, TX). Lonny found great joy in his work as an independent community pharmacist, owning and operating several pharmacies throughout the state. In 1989, he began his journey with Pharmacy Providers of Oklahoma (PPOK), where he managed third party pharmacy programs, a buying group, and a national claims transmission network (RxLinc). Under his tenure as CEO, PPOK grew from a small Oklahoma company to a company with a nationwide presence. In addition to his professional endeavors, he served on the board for several companies and civic organizations. Most notably, Lonny served on the executive committee of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) beginning in 2005, and later serving as President of during the 2011-2012 year. In this role, he continued his support for independent pharmacists and the communities they serve. As a result of his commitment to the profession, an endowed scholarship in his name was created at SWOSU in 2013, to assist students interested in independent pharmacy pursue their goals. Lonny was a recipient of the NCPA Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, the SWOSU College of Pharmacy Dean's Distinguished Service Award in 2012, the American Pharmacists Association Bowl of Hygiea Award for distinguished service in the community in 1994, as well as countless others. He loved giving back to the community that gave so much to him. He had a knack for making everyone around him realize their full potential. All those he mentored (whether formally or informally) benefitted from learning of his work ethic and service to the community. His legacy in service to both the pharmacy world and the community at large will benefit generations to come. Throughout all of Lonny's accomplishments, being a husband and father were the two roles of which he was most proud. Despite all of his obligations to his profession and the community, he still found time to coach little league, cheered at every tennis tournament, and attend every band competition. In looking for a role model of how to be a great husband and father, his sons need not look any further than across the dinner table each night. Lonny loved to travel with Ginger, where their travels took them to Paris and South Africa, and loved to go on Canadian fishing expeditions with his sons. So many happy memories will live on through those experiences. Truly, Lonny knew it was the experiences and the memories with those you love that make for a full life. Lonny was preceded in death by his parents, James Samuel and Lila Wilson; his brother, Sammy Wilson; and his father-in-law, James Graham. He is survived by his wife, Ginger; his son, Justin and wife Heather; his son, Corey and wife Laura; his granddaughters, Meg Ginger, Gabby, and Charlotte, who very lovingly knew him as PaPa; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Graham; his sister-in-law, LuAnn Young, husband Stan, and their son, Andrew. A memorial service will be planned in the summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lonny D. Wilson Scholarship Fund at the SWOSU College of Pharmacy. |
