About Mary Ellen Richardson Barnes, age 70, of Blanchard OK passed away peacefully on February 12, 2022 at the OU Medical Center. Her family and friends knew her as "Mary" or "Mary Ellen." She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter "Dick" and Claire Richardson, her beloved husband Jack Barnes, her sisters, Mary Ann Moore, Elaine Bentley Hanner, nephew Russell RIchardson Bentley, sister-in-law Debbie Moore, and her great, great nephew, Jackson Wade English. She is survived by brother Don Moore, sisters Kellye Cloud, and Laura Rogers, nieces Linda Harrison, Merry Buchanan, and Rebecca Fairchild, as well as nieces Lauren Holmes, Jennifer (and Nicholas) Bashore, Stacie English, Aspen Rogers, and Allie Rogers, and nephew Christopher (and Natalee) Moore as well as great nieces Gracie Holmes, Emma English, and Callie Ann Custar, and great nephews, Ryan Bashore and Dalton English, as well as many friends including her dear GG's (Golden Girls), and her dear puppies, Molly, Maggie, and Maisie. Mary graduated from Midwest City High School in 1969 and went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in Education. She later attended and graduated with her Master's degree from East Central State University in 1994. She taught Home Economics at Wilson High School in Wilson OK from 1977 until 1993, and then served as a counselor at Kelly Elementary in Moore OK from 1994 until she retired in 2011. Mary was a dedicated teacher and counselor touching many children's lives throughout her career. She was also a survivor of lung and breast cancer. Mary could sure fight like a girl. The Visitation is on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM at John M. Ireland and Son Funeral Home in Moore OK. A graveside service will be held on February 19, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Dale Cemetery in Shawnee OK.
