Bill "stoney" Mclemore Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1972
Date of Passing Nov 30, 2009
About Dean Thompson (Seq. Class of 1971) ~ Billy (Stoney) McLemore (Class of 72) passed away on 11/30/09 and they had his funeral on 12/4/09. I was there, a lot of his friends were there.
Stoney was my roommate/teammate my senior year. He was a very athletic, and he did love to run, one weekend Stoney and I ran to his home in Stilwell from Sequoyah. I never could stay up with him. When we got to his house, I took my shoes off and my toes were all blistered and bloody but we made it. We were training for the Okie Marathon which was a 41 mile relay across the OK panhandle. Coach Sumner drove us (Noah Timothy-State Champion, Willie Jumper-state contender, Stoney-state contender and myself and a college group from NSU), all night to Elkhart, Kansas. We got there with about 10 minutes to spare. Stoney ran the 1st leg and he had about 2 minutes to warm-up, you can imagine 9 people in a station wagon and about a 7-8 hour drive all cramped up then warming up for 2 minutes and then run 10 1/4 miles but that was the kind of person Stoney was, he was very determined. And yes we won and broke the old record , we even beat the college division times which ran an hour later.
Sorry about that, but you know how we start reminiscing when we talk about our time/friends at Sequoyah. I don't know how former students feel about their time at a public school but I know at a boarding school there seems to be a special bond between students (former, present, and future)! We are like family!
