JOHANSEN, KERRY LLOYD March 3, 1952 - May 23, 2004. Kerry Johansen died Sunday May 23, 2004, surrounded by family at his home in McMinnville after a nine-month battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease. His former wife Deborah Johansen oversaw his care. He was born March 3, 1952, in Toledo to John and Jeannine Johansen. He grew up in Lincoln City, graduating from Taft High School in 1970, then from Linfield College in 1974 with a degree in business. After graduation from college, Kerry stayed in McMinnville. In 1979 he joined City Sanitary Service and became operations manager for KE Enterprises, parent firm of Western Oregon Waste, the successor of City Sanitary. For more than 20 years he was deeply involved in Gallery Theater, singing and acting in a wide variety of roles, and was active in McMinnville Area Chamber of Commerce activities, including serving a term as president in 2002-2003. Kerry loved tradition and his Norwegian heritage was important to him. Music and movies were his passion. Creating surprises for people was his talent. He adored his sons. His family and friends was what he lived for. Johansen is survived by two sons, Eric Johansen, a student at Oregon State University, and Jordan Johansen, a student at McMinnville High School; parents, John and Jeannine Johansen of Lincoln City; and sister, Jana McFarland, also of Lincoln City. |
