About | Ed started out much like we all do. He began life in Portland, Maine July 20, 1947, a pretty good date by most measures. Bob and Bev Bayuk had things going with their family already. There weren’t any Wawa Convenience Stores around then to stop for coffee – Ed’s later favorite past-time. Those would, thankfully, come later, when Ed became an obsessive coffee drinker. But Ed lived a life like no other as you who knew him know very well. He was a brilliant man. He was obtuse. He was a tragic soul. He was a talented guy. He was heavy-handed. He was a deeply troubled person. He was extremely athletic. He was amateurish. He was a health nut. He was terribly unhealthy. These paradoxes were Ed throughout his life. Ed was quixotic and you did not know what to expect when you met him at the door. Ed was you. Ed was me. It doesn’t really matter how much we have. What matters is how much we give. What does matter is how we share. Ed tried his best to share what he had. Ed tried to understand the world, tried to understand other people, tried to be respectful. He did not always succeed, but he tried. From 1947 to 2021 it seemed like Ed did what he wanted. That ended at 2:46pm on December 7, 2021. |
