he was born on April 23, 1949 in Abington, PA. After graduating from Westminster College, where he played varsity basketball for four years, Scott dedicated his life to education. He went on to complete his Master's Degree at Westminster and he later earned his Doctorate from Lehigh University in 1984. His career in education began as an English teacher (and basketball coach). Scott went on to work for many years as a reading specialist, then as a language arts specialist in the Downingtown Area School District. In 2001 he became a professor of literacy and reading at West Chester University where he taught for 11 years. He was the author of The Power of Words and Making Words Matter as well as other books, and numerous articles for professional journals. All who knew Scott, including colleagues and students, found him to be helpful, generous, and a loyal friend. In addition to his passion for words and reading, his diverse interests included quirky collections of old things, travel, tennis, fishing and, of course, his friends. Survivors: His greatest interests, were his two sons, Nathaniel and Alexander. |
