Josephine Lombardo Spagnola,102, was born in Italy and resided in Juniata Gap until 1940 when she left to study voice at Juilliard in NYC,and she remained there singing professionally until 1947,when she moved to southern California.,She enjoyed a long career as an opera singer and also taught voice until the age of 100. Her father,P.A. Lombardo was a well-known stone mason and there are still several structures in Altoona which he created.Josephine was the recipient of many arts and service awards and also has a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Fame. She was preceded in death by husband Andy Spagnola,and is survived by three children,several grandchildren and great grandchildren,2 siblings,and several nieces and nephews.There is a music scholarship in her name at Cal State University San Bernadino,Calif.
